No-exam life insurance

Learn which candidates qualify for quick decisions, what the process entails, and what alternatives exist when you don't fit the accelerated path.

A growing list of carriers now use fast-track evaluation: candidates in specified age and benefit bands get approval using your form, medication records, driving history and similar information without a medical exam. Often a decision arrives the same day. Each rate quote identifies whether an exam is mandatory, discretionary, or unnecessary for that particular product.

What it changes

Speeding up the decision process is not the same as skipping investigation. Your statements get verified, and if you misstate things on your form, the insurer can challenge the policy within the opening two years. When the carrier's records suggest concerns, they may still request an exam or labs; you keep the right to proceed or decline at that time.

Who tends to qualify

Most applicants in their late fifties or younger, requesting benefits within the carrier's underwriting threshold, with clean medical background and a year or more without nicotine use. Some insurance companies will also accept recent bloodwork from your doctor in place of their own exam.

Should an exam be required, a paramedic typically spends 20 to 30 minutes at a location of your choosing—your house, workplace, or another nearby spot in the San Ramon region—and it won't cost you anything. An exam can sometimes better your rate tier if you're in good health, so having one done might turn out favorably.
